Dr Suman K. T

Dr. Suman K. T. has 19 years of experience in teaching, research, and extension activities in the field of Food Science and Nutrition. She has undertaken valorization of cashew apple as part of her doctoral programme. She has formulated and guided PG research projects on value addition and product development of bamboo shoot and seed, germinated rice, pumpkin, fermented dairy products, coconut-filled paneer, nutribars, waxing of tapioca, and tuber-based baked products and guided more than 12 M.Sc. students as major advisor. Work related to her M.Sc. student on rice-based fermented dairy products earned the Innovative Product Award in the Dairy and Food Industry Conference in 2014. She has played a significant role in various infrastructural development projects of Krishi Vigyan Kendras as Principal Investigator and has been involved as Co-Principal Investigator in research projects on food product development. She has provided technical guidance for the establishment of various food based enterprises in Thrissur and Kannur districts of Kerala. She has attended various national and international trainings on innovative product development and food safety. Her current research focus with Ph.D. students is on valorization of passion fruit waste and the development of meal replacers for adults. Her area of interest includes value addition and product development, functional foods and nutraceuticals, and food safety.
