Mrs. Zahida P. M.

Mrs. Zahida P. M. acquired her B.Sc. (Ag.) in the year 1999 and M.Sc. (Horticulture) specialized in Pomology and Floriculture in the year 2002, from Kerala Agricultural University, Vellanikkara, Thrissur. She is the holder of Kerala Agricultural University merit scholarship during B.Sc. (Ag.) and M.Sc. (Hort.) programmes.

Mrs Zahida P. M. joined as Assistant Professor in the Department of Fruit Science, College of Agriculture, Vellanikkara, Kerala Agricultural University. Thrissur, from 27/02/2021. She was involved in various academic, research and extension activities of the Department.

Her PG research work was on “Regulation of sex in Garcinia gummigutta L. Robs, through controlled pollination and top working”. The research highlights of the PG research work were highly appreciated by the then Vice Chancellor, Dr. K. V. Peter. She is also the winner of Inter University Basket Ball Tournament held at Annamalai University, Tamilnadu. She started her career in 2004 as Agricultural Officer in the State Department of Agriculture, Kerala in the Department of Agricultural Development and Farmers’ Welfare, Kerala. She secured a Post Graduate Diploma in Plant Health Management with a project work on “Ecofriendly management of moth and butterfly pod borers in cowpea -Vigna unguiculata var. sesquipedalis". She had setup a plant health clinic in the Krishibhavan, through which she strengthened her agricultural extension service to the farming community in her jurisdiction apart from regular departmental duties.

Mrs Zahida P. M. is the course teacher and associate course teacher of various UG and PG courses. She is the major advisor of a PG student and advisory committee member of PG and PhD students of Department of Horticulture. She is in charge of the Experiential learning programme course of final year under graduate students.

Mrs Zahida P. M. has attended national and international seminars organized by Indian Institute of Horticultural Research, Bangalore and has participated in poster and oral presentations. She is the Principal Investigator of the projects

1. Production of planting materials RF mode
2. Strengthening production of quality planting materials, TC banana, coconut, vegetables and bioinputs in KAU

She is also the Co PI of the projects

1. Network project on development of database for native and indigenous mango varieties of Kerala for table and processing purpose
2. Network project on collection, evaluation, characterization and conservation of minor/indigenous/new/novel minor fruit crops for Kerala

 An online seminar was conducted for the benefit of farmers and public on “Cultivation and management aspects of Garcinia (kodampuli) fruit crop”, in the webinar series organized by the Department of Fruit Science during the covid pandemic. She has also developed a video on the different propagation methods in fruit crops as a part of extension activity. Acted as resource person for various trainings conducted by Agricultural development and farmer’s welfare Department for farmers and extension functionaries.
